The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) on Wednesday presented some relief items to victims of the recent windstorm that hit Chamba and its surrounding communities in the Nanumba North Municipality of Northern region.
The items included 350 pieces of roofing sheet, 100 bags of rice, 30 gallons of oil, 200 pieces of blankets, 100 pieces of mosquito nets, 20 bales of used clothes, 50 mattresses, 200 plastic cups and plates
The Director General of NADMO, Nana Agyeman who presented the items to the victims Yesterday said the gesture was to help alleviate the plight of the victims.
He urged the residents to consider planting more trees in the area to serve us wind break to prevent future disasters.
He indicated that the President directed him and Defense Minister to present the items to victims of the disaster.
The Member of Parliament for Bimbilla Constituency, Mr Dominic Nitiwul who is Defense Minister last month rushed to the community in the company of officials of NADMO together with Municipal Chief Executive of Nanumba North to ascertain the extent of damage.
Torched after the visiting the victims, the MP earliar on made a donation of 175 pieces of roofing sheets to the affected residents.
Wednesday donation was the second of its after the personal donation that was made by the MP.
Receiving the items on behalf of the Regent of Chamba, Mba Abubakari Ziblim thanked government for coming to their aid
The Municipality Chief Executive, Abdulai Yakubu thanked The President and Defense Minister for the swift response.
He further urged victims to stay home and assist the officials from NADMO carry out Smooth distribution exercise of the items.
Schools, the Chamba police station and other public facilities had their roofs completely riffed off following a windstorm that hit the area.
A number of residents were rendered homeless while other sustained injuries.
